SHABBAT
Davening (you can call it praying) is like yoga. It takes work but is worth it in the end. Think of it as a hill to climb. But, really, it's only a hill. Our prayer experience is uplifting, musical and communal. It's built around niggunim (wordless melodies) and singing. Lots of singing. Listen here. We're not on every week, so be sure to check the calendar.
Take your Saturday mornings to the next level with some Kitchen goodness. We daven for the first hour and a half and follow it with an interactive Torah reading called Storahtelling. Then shabbos lunch on us. Shabbat AM now happens almost every week, either at the school or the Firehouse (see below) check calendar for locations. (Shout outs to our peeps at Wise Sons for always bringing it with their deli deliciousness.)

Quiet, contemplative time. Arrive before prayers to spend time anywhere in the Fire House, including outside on the roof. Engage in a written conversation with the week’s parasha (as experienced at the spring’s Kitchen Shavuot and the Avivah Zornberg retreat).
Words, phrases and lines from the week’s parasha and other sources will be provided on sheets of paper. For those who don’t write on Shabbat, the source/prompt sheet will be available online. Also, some may choose to spend this time in quiet contemplation.
10 AM
Shabbat morning services featuring (in lieu of a formal Torah service) an in-the-moment composition made of our written conversations with words from the Torah.
This is us – Kitchenites -- Jews in San Francisco in 2020/5780 -- taking Torah to heart, pulling it close by writing into the spaces between the ancient lines.
Join us Friday night after services and ess, kinder, ess! Tickets for each available below, or go big and do 'em all. Dinner is always vegetarian
Babysitting-during-services to the next. Mimi Greisman is a childhood educator, well-known throughout the Bay and ready to teach Kitchen kids ages 3-8 (younger if a parent is present) during our Friday night Shabbat services. While we run an informal operation, and we love that kids do as they do in The Kitchen during services, we still recognize that sometimes kids get bored with all the grown-ups. And we want their Shabbat to be full of quality learning, too.
Mimi offers a variety of activities: music, singing, puppet shows, stories, parachute time, bubbles, movement and art. Parents welcome.
