BABY-NAMINGS
MAZAL TOV to you and your family! Wow.
We say that a name doesn’t take hold until one is called by this name before Torah and community. And there’s nothing sweeter than welcoming a new person on Shabbat at The Kitchen.
At The Kitchen, baby-namings take place on Shabbat mornings during the Torah service. You will be invited up for an aliyah— reciting the blessing over Torah (don’t worry, if you don’t know it or feel rusty we will support you all the way). After the blessing post-Torah reading, you will offer another blessing— a personal one, to your baby. As Rabbi Kushner likes to say, this is first. God-willing, of 3 blessings that you will give your child in front of your community: The next one for Bat/Bar Mitzvah, and then under the chuppah (wedding canopy). And, of course, you can bless your child privately as much as your want (at least until they tell you to stop).
We welcome all of your family and friends to join us for a morning of davening (prayer) at The Kitchen and to celebrate you and your baby. Everyone is invited to join us for a kiddush lunch after services. We love it if you can sponsor part or all of lunch in honor of the baby-naming! Just email Katie Quinn at katie@thekitchensf.org.
